[Lines of Development in the Liberal Protestantism] If Protestantism has any desire to remain somehow compatible with an increasingly secular society, it would do well to reflect on its liberal traditions. Such a tradition provides theological insight, critical questions, and methodological approaches for our times. This volume is an attempt to reintroduce these traditions afresh. The volume combines studies about some of the great philosophical and theological thinkers within the liberal and enlightenment traditions of Protestantism. Thinkers such as Immanuel Kant, David Friedrich Strauß, Albert Schweitzer, and Rudolf Bultmann all make appearances. Their thoughts are first examined in their own context and then brought forward within a constructive discussion of our current moment. Moreover, this volume attempts to bring a new perspective to foundational theological themes - e. g., the plausibility of speech about God; the question of universal revelation; the relationship between faith and reason; and questions of death and eternal life - while developing new and fresh proposals for an enlightened Protestantism for our current times.

Beyond Westminster: Lessons Learnt from Coaliti...

The special New Year's Day 2011 edition of BBC Radio 4's 'Beyond Westminster', in which Andrew Rawnsley considers the lessons of history for Britain's coalition government - and its opponents. Conservative and Liberal Democrat ministers are busily advancing their ambitious political and economic agenda - albeit amid parliamentary revolts and embarrassing comments to undercover reporters. Exactly a hundred years ago too, no party had an outright majority at Westminster, and a Liberal government relied on Irish Nationalists and a fledgling Labour Party to enact reform of Parliament, a radical budget and social changes. Lloyd George continued in coalition with the Conservatives after World War One only for peacetime tensions within the government to culminate in the ejection from Downing Street of Britain's last Liberal prime minister, amid mass disaffection with Liberal splits. Can Nick Clegg avoid a similar fate befalling today's Liberal Democrats? Seven months into 'new politics', Andrew Rawnsley explores with historians Juliet Nicolson and Martin Pugh the record of past coalitions. He also discusses with The Rt. Hon. David Davis MP, Simon Hughes MP and Tristram Hunt MP the lessons of the past and questions whether this coalition will re-shape British politics. 1. Language: English. Narrator: uncredited. The Birth of Biopolitics

Michel Foucault's 1979 lectures at the Collège de France, The Birth of Biopolitics , pursue and develop further the themes of his lectures from the previous year, Security, Territory, Population . Having shown how eighteenth century political economy marks the birth of a new governmental reason, Foucault undertakes the detailed analysis of the forms of this liberal governmentality. This involves describing the political rationality within which the specific problems of life and population were posed: "Studying liberalism as the general framework of biopolitics". What are the specific features of the liberal art of government as they were outlined in the eighteenth century? What crisis of governmentality characterizes the present world and what revisions of liberal government has it given rise to? This is the diagnostic task addressed by Foucault's study of the two major twentieth century schools of neo-liberalism: German ordo-liberalism and the neo-liberalism of the Chicago School. In the years he taught at the Collège de France, this was Michel Foucault's sole foray into the field of contemporary history. This course raises questions of political philosophy and social policy that are at the heart of current debates about the role and status of neo-liberalism in twenty-first century politics. A remarkable feature of these lectures is their discussion of contemporary economic theory and practice, culminating in an analysis of the model of homo oeconomicus, or economic man. Foucault's analysis also highlights the paradoxical role played by "society" in relation to government. "Society" is that in the name of which government strives to limit itself, but it is also the target for permanent governmental intervention to produce, multiply, and guarantee the freedoms required by economic liberalism. Far from being opposed to the State, civil society is thus shown to be the correlate of a liberal technology of government. Original work by Foucault available in English for the first time.

Hold Texas, Hold the Nation: Victory or Death ,...
9,95 € *

Texas is booming. In recent years, the Lone Star State has experienced some of the most rapid growth in the country, both in its economy and in its population. This is thanks to an influx of businesses relocating to Texas to take advantage of all its benefits. But this increase in population has also brought about a shift in the political dialogue within Texas's borders. As more people pour into Texas, they bring with them liberal and socialist ideologies as they try to swing the state from red to blue. These plans for changing policies will suffocate the highly successful capitalist state and its residents, and according to Lt. Col. Allen West (Ret.), allowing these liberal ideals to creep into the legislative branch will be the death of Texas. In Hold Texas, Hold the Nation: Victory or Death, West explains how the longstanding conservative capitalist policies within the state's government have allowed it to flourish over the years, providing hard-to-ignore evidence and allowing his experience in Congress to support his argument. He makes his stand, asserting that Texas must hold fast to its conservative ways and resist succumbing to liberal mindsets, or else cease to prosper, and begin to perish. Texas is a sustaining force for America, truly embodying the founding principles of America: those unalienable individual rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In Texas, it's ''Victory or Death'.' 1. Language: English. Narrator: Allen West. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/166911/bk_acx0_166911_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.
