Our Liberal Movement In Theology (LARGE PRINT EDITION) ab 42.99 € als gebundene Ausgabe: . Aus dem Bereich: Bücher, English, International, Gebundene Ausgaben,
This book consists of two parts: the essay "The Idea of Public Reason Revisited" and "The Law of Peoples", a major reworking of a much shorter article by the same name. Taken together, they are the culmination of more than 50 years of reflection on liberalism and on some of the most pressing problems of our times. "The Idea of Public Reason Revisited" is John Rawls' most detailed account of how a modern constitutional democracy, based on a liberal political conception, could and would be viewed as legitimate by reasonable citizens who, on religious, philosophical, or moral grounds, do not themselves accept a liberal comprehensive doctrine. The Law of Peoples lays out the general principles that can and should be accepted by both liberal and non-liberal societies as the standard for regulating their behavior toward one another. The print book is published by Harvard University Press. 1. Language: English. Narrator: David Colacci. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/redw/000153/bk_redw_000153_sample.mp3. One of the most significant works of political philosophy, John Stuart Mill's On Liberty (1859) defines and defends individual liberty, a cornerstone of classical liberal thinking. Defining liberty as freedom from interference by state power or popular moral opinion, Mill justifies the individual's right to this liberty by focusing on the role self-development plays in human well-being. His vision of individual rights extends to include freedom of thought and emotion and the freedom to act together with others. Society should protect the development of individuality to aid both social progress and innovation. On Liberty introduces the influential "harm principle" to guide judgment about when a state or society is justified in intervening in individual affairs. Intervention is justified only when actions cause harm to another person's interests. On Liberty has remained in print ever since it was first published - and the principles Mill outlined over 150 years ago still influence political debate today. 1. Language: English. New second edition with new intro by Hans Hoppe Here is Hans Hoppe's first treatise in English - actually his first book in English - and the one that put him on the map as a social thinker and economist to watch. He argued that there are only two possible archetypes in economic affairs: socialism and capitalism. All systems are combinations of those two types. The capitalist model he defines as pure protection of private property, free association, and exchange - no exceptions. All deviations from that ideal are species of socialism, with public ownership and interference with trade. Within the structure of socialism, he distinguishes the left and right version. "Conservative" socialism favors high regulation, behavioral controls, protectionism, and nationalism. The "liberal" version tends more toward outright public ownership and redistribution. The consequences of socialism vary based on their degree and kind, but they have similarities: high costs, resource waste, low growth. This treatise has long been out of print, but is now available again for use in comparative-systems classes, and for an orientation to the theory of economic systems. The theoretical apparatus is Rothbardian to the core, and its main contribution is to provide an organizing principle for understanding the structure of real-world economies as measured against pure types. A tour de force. This edition preserves the formatting from the original publisher, for reasons of citation. Though it was published by a major academic publishing house, the visuals are not what they might have been. Nonetheless, the book is well cited, and this edition makes it possible to navigate those citations. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Jim Vann. No drinking. No smoking. No cursing. No dancing. No R-rated movies. Kevin Roose wasn't used to rules like these. As a sophomore at Brown University, he spent his days drinking fair-trade coffee, singing in an a cappella group, and fitting right in with Brown's free-spirited, ultra-liberal student body. But when Roose leaves his Ivy League confines to spend a semester at Liberty University, a conservative Baptist school in Lynchburg, Virginia, obedience is no longer optional. Liberty is the late Reverend Jerry Falwell's "Bible Boot Camp" for young evangelicals, his training ground for the next generation of America's Religious Right. Liberty's 10,000 undergraduates take courses like Evangelism 101, hear from guest speakers like Sean Hannity and Karl Rove, and follow a 46-page code of conduct that regulates every aspect of their social lives. Hoping to connect with his evangelical peers, Roose decides to enroll at Liberty as a new transfer student, leaping across the God Divide and chronicling his adventures in this daring report from the front lines of America's culture war. His journey takes him from an evangelical hip-hop concert to choir practice at Falwell's legendary Thomas Road Baptist Church. He experiments with prayer, participates in a spring break mission trip to Daytona Beach (where he learns to preach the gospel to partying coeds), and pays a visit to Every Man's Battle, an on-campus support group for chronic masturbators. He meets pastors' kids, closet doubters, Christian rebels, and conducts what would be the last print interview of Rev. Falwell's life. Hilarious and heartwarming, respectful and thought-provoking, The Unlikely Disciple will inspire and entertain believers and nonbelievers alike. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Kevin Roose. “Shortly before this book went to print, President Trump called me to say what he had said before: Michael Wolff had no access to him for Fire and Fury. ‘That book was a total fraud’, Trump told me on the phone. ‘It was a disgrace. It was really disgraceful.’” “I loved Fire and Fury, but even the author admitted that he only wrote what the president’s advisors told him. Eddie Scarry, one of Washington’s best political writers, shows where they were wrong.” (Ann Coulter, 12-time New York Times best-selling author) The media obsession with Donald Trump is not new, but it shifted into high gear sometime in 2016 and transformed into a full-blown, demented, Ahab-like crusade immediately after Trump’s stunning electoral victory. In their mania to prove that Trump is not “normal” and to provide ammunition for the increasingly hysterical “resistance”, the media has tossed out any remaining semblance of objectivity and professionalism - becoming a mouthpiece for the most ridiculous anti-Trump rumors and conjectures. The most extreme example of this feverish journalism is the best-selling book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. In a normal time, a book like this would not even find a publisher, let alone lead its author to national media stardom. But in an atmosphere where anything that paints the president in a negative light is reported as gospel, Fire author Michael Wolff has become the prophet of the liberal resistance...and all of the obvious untruths in the book are ignored or explained away. Now journalist Eddie Scarry collects and systematically debunks the worst errors, falsehoods, and silly innuendo spread throughout Wolff’s exhausting tome - making Fraud and Fiction a must-listen for anyone who still values objective journalism and truth. 1.
