Essay from the year 2018 in the subject American Studies - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,0, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, course: Advanced Academic Writing II, language: English, abstract: This paper explores the differences between liberal feminists and those women who do not feel represented by today's liberal feminist ideas, but rather claim a different, conservative view on what empowers women. The fact that there are more and more younger women who feel this way is also evident in the growing outrage media sector. Thus, in order to examine these differences, the paper looks at one example of outrage media: "Tomi's Final Thoughts." Tomi Lahren is clearly a representative of a different, conservative, and anti-liberal feminist worldview. Through her use of outrage methods such as mockery, emotional language, and belittling, she deliberately vilifies and attacks liberal feminism, and, thus, promotes a conservative feminism. This paper shows that Lahren and other conservative women believe liberal feminists cast women as victims and demand special treatment. On top of that, conservative feminists see liberal feminists as man-hating or even show a fear of changing traditional gender roles or family values, all of which leads them to feel misrepresented by liberal feminism and its supposed claim to speak and fight for all women's interests. Although both sides have the goal of empowering women, they mainly attack and denounce each other.

Through the eyes of three characters - a liberal ex-banker, a radical feminist and a maverick technologist - we see what would be needed to forge such a world, one without commercial banks or stock markets, where companies are collectively owned and housing and income are guaranteed, but also at what cost.

A Macat Analysis of Saba Mahmood's Politics of ...

In her original and controversial 2005 book Politics of Piety: The Islamic Revival and the Feminist Subject Saba Mahmood examines the women's mosque movement in Cairo, Egypt as part of a wider turn to religious fervor integral to the broader Islamic revival of the twenty-first century. Mahmood's research suggests that in choosing to embrace the norms of their faith, these pious Muslim women are not limiting, but rather affirming, themselves. They do not value the idea of "freedom" in the same way the liberal West does, and this can give us new insights into ideas that we often take for granted about freedom and autonomy. The strong feelings Mahmood's book stirred up are not surprising, as Politics of Piety challenges many assumptions made by feminists from the secular liberal tradition. Can feminism's goals of gender equality and freedom be applied to all women? Should we consider the perspectives of women who do not share these ideals? Mahmood's work was awarded the 2005 American Political Science Association's Victoria Shuck Award. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Macat.com. Radicals: Portraits of a Destructive Passion , ...

Radical liberals want to make America a better place, but their utopian social engineering leads, ironically, to greater human suffering. From Karl Marx to Barack Obama, Horowitz shows how the idealistic impulse to make the world a better place gives birth to the twin cultural pathologies of cynicism and nihilism and is the chief source of human suffering. A former liberal himself, Horowitz recounts his own brushes with radicalism and offers unparalleled insight into the disjointed ideology of liberal elites through case studies of well-known radial leftists, including Christopher Hitchens, feminist Bettina Aptheker, leftist academic Cornel West, and others. Exploring the origin and evolution of radical liberals and their progressive ideology, Radicals illustrates how liberalism is not only intellectually crippling for its adherents but devastating to society. David Horowitz is one of America’s most original and iconoclastic political commentators. He is the best-selling coauthor of The Rockefellers and The Kennedys and the president of the Center for the Study of Popular Culture. He lives in Los Angeles. 1. Language: English.
